N.E.B. recommends conditional approval of Trans Mountain Expansion Project
May 19, 2016
Today the National Energy Board released a lengthy report recommending approval of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. The approval is subject to 157 conditions. The Board's report to the federal cabinet followed a lengthy review process including a public hearing that commenced in April 2014. The original application was submitted to the N.E.B. in December 2013. The project involves the twinning of an existing 1,147 km. oil pipeline that runs from Edmonton, Alberta to Burnaby, British Columbia.

If the Cabinet accepts the recommendation, the N.E.B. will issue a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for purposes of Part III of the National Energy Board Act. Detailed routing for the pipeline will be considered by the N.E.B. after the Certificate is issued.
